|Details of this year’s FLBA Scholarship Programme have just been announced by The Family Law Bar Association.|
In a recent statement the FLBA said:
“In an effort to promote social mobility, equality and inclusion the FLBA is pleased to be awarding up to 2 generous scholarships in the amount of £15,000 to fund applicants intending to practise in Family Law. The FLBA are proud of this important initiative and is pleased that a member of Bridging the Bar has again agreed to sit on our selection panel. The objective of the scholarships is to increase opportunity for those wishing to train for the Bar by assisting candidates who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend the BPC/BTC and/or to pay the fees.
The scholarship is intended
(a) either, to meet their personal day-to-day living expenses whilst attending Part I and/or Part II of the new Bar Practice Course or Bar Training Course (‘BPC/BTC’), formerly the Bar Professional Training Course
(b) and/or, to pay the fees required to do so in part or in whole with a view to commencing a family law pupillage thereafter.
Accordingly, evidence of financial means and of any indebtedness will be required as part of the application process.
It will be a precondition of the scholarship award that any applicant has obtained a family law pupillage in chambers which wholly or primarily undertakes family law work. There is an expectation that any applicant will have a 2.1 degree.“
In terms of process there will be two rounds of interview for the FLBA scholarship programme.
The first will take place in late July 2022 and will be conducted remotely or in person.
The second round interviewees will be expected to submit a short essay in advance of their interview. The successful candidates will be announced in mid September 2022.
If you would like to apply please you can download an application form HERE but please note, your submission needs to be submitted no later than 4.00 p.m. on 15 July 2022.
Westgate Chambers remain a member and strong supporter of the FLBA and if there’s anything you’d like to discuss regarding this programme, please contact us.
