In A & B (Care Orders and Placement Orders – Failures) [2018] EWFC 72 Keehan J said that if the functions and roles of the IRO are not exercised in a clear, robust and untrammelled fashion, children or young people will suffer.

“ The IRO is, or should be, the child’s protector or advocate.”

Maria will lead a discussion on the vital role of the IRO in care proceedings
