Hayley joined Chambers after successfully completing pupillage under the supervision of Gareth Burrows, Dale Sullivan and Greg Johnson.
Hayley has a general criminal practice defending and prosecuting a broad range of offences. She appears mainly in the Crown Court and is a Grade 2 prosecutor.
Hayley accepts instructions in Sussex, London, the South East and the North West of England.
Hayley has a detailed, practical and forensic approach to trial preparation.
Hayley has successfully mitigated away from lengthy sentences in complex matters, using her skills to listen to clients and share their life story concisely.
Hayley’s previous experience working for 12 years with children, young people and families along with her criminology and psychology studies has equipped her to support clients and witnesses, taking a holistic approach when advising.
Previously a County Court Advocate for 18 months, Hayley conducted over 500 hearings in a successful and busy practice.
Hayley hails from a Northern seaside town and is an avid theatre enthusiast.
Recent cases
R v DL (Brighton MC 2024) – Defending in a 5-day sexual assault case involving child complainants and an adult defendant. Successful half time submission in relation to 2 charges. D received a SSO after mitigation for 4 charges.
R v DF (Lewes CC 2024) – Appeal against conviction for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order. Argued successfully terms of the order not sufficiently precise.
R v AS (Guildford MC 2024) – Defendant acquitted of possession of a knife after trial. The Court was persuaded the Crown had not proven forensically links to the defendant. I conducted a deep dive into unused BWV, which evidenced the police at the scene did not consider the knife to belong to the defendant.
R v KH (Lewes CC 2025) – Defending an attempted robbery of a bus driver. Sentence significantly reduced after mitigation.
R v AG (Lewes CC 2025) – Prosecuting stranger stalking offence with international previous convictions. Conviction secured after trial.
R v DM (Portsmouth CC 2025) – Prosecuting Coercive Controlling Behaviour secured conviction on first day of trial.
