We were pleasantly surprised to receive some very positive feedback from the Family Billing Team at the Legal Aid Agency recently.

Their online feedback portal picked up an extensive comment regarding a bill we’d submitted for a meeting on the 25th May 2022 and a hearing on the 27th May 2022 under the Family Advocacy Scheme.

They were pleased the bill had been sent promptly (in this case on the 13th June) and that all fees had been not only claimed correctly but also comprehensively evidenced alongside Counsel’s detailed attendance note.

The Legal Aid Agency noted the client appreciated the fact each document had been uploaded under the correct Document Type; and with a Document Description confirming the contents of each document, the ‘Order’, ‘Brief’ and ‘Attendance Note’.

And the review finished with the client asking our intermediary to thank the barrister and her clerk for:

“Taking the time and trouble to provide such a accurately claimed and helpfully evidenced bill.  This allows us to authorise payment as claimed and without delay; and to process more claims for payment in a given time than where fees are claimed incorrectly; or evidence is missing or more difficult to locate.”

While the part about uploading the right documents in the right place should be a given (although we know from our instructing solicitors that incredibly this isn’t always the case with other Chambers), we know just how important it is for us to do everything we can to avoid any delays in payment.

This is why we always make sure the settlement of every claim goes though as quickly and easily as possible.

Our primary aim is of course to provide our instructing solicitors and lay clients with the best possible legal advice but we know this advice has to be delivered with the highest level of service.  An important part of this service is making sure everyone is paid and paid promptly.

While it was nice to receive this praise and to get the recognition for our all the hard work we’ve done to improve our billing processes, we know this is a standard we have set as standard.
