Catharine Langley

Pupil

Catharine joined Chambers as a family pupil in October 2024.

Before pupillage Catharine worked as a modern slavery advocate, gaining experience in domestic abuse, trafficking and human rights. She worked closely with survivors of modern slavery in their journey to recovery and assisted solicitors with cases of identifying human traffickers.

In 2023 Catharine worked as a county court advocate in courts across London where she gained experience in a range of civil hearings, including RTA small claims hearings, landlord and tenant matters, mortgage possession and return of goods disputes.

Catharine completed the Bar Training course alongside an LLM in Family Law, throughout this period Catharine volunteered at The University of Law Family Pro Bono Clinic.

Catharine produced a dissertation which was submitted to Parliament by her university to assist with the ongoing debate surrounding the Domestic Abuse Bill, specifically Clause 44, as it then was. Her research dealt with domestic abuse, judicial training and the current problems in the family court surrounding issues when dealing with domestic abuse in family cases.

As a family paralegal, Catharine liaised with clients and counsel as a first point of contact when preparing for trials and hearings, mostly in family finance cases. She drafted instructions to counsel, prepared bundles and attended court.

Through previous roles with Support Through Court and Citizens Advice Catharine has supported clients in various family matters including divorce, separation and child arrangements. Catharine also holds qualifications as a civil mediator and accredited negotiator.

She is a Queen Mother scholar of Middle Temple, and was called in November 2022. Catharine was the winner of The University of Law mock trial at the RCJ in 2022, and a finalist in the inter-inn debate competition in 2023.

In her spare time, she enjoys delivering lectures and workshops on weekends to students interested in Law, and delving into the cryptocurrency market.
