Drug Offences
Our criminal barristers specialise in drugs offences.
Many of our criminal barristers specialise in drugs offences involving the import, production, distribution, supply and possession of all classes of drugs.
While we have defended and prosecuted individuals accused of committing drugs offences, our particular expertise is in larger cases in which drug trafficking or the supply of drugs is linked to organised crime and complex domestic and international conspiracies.
While historically our work has largely been linked to cocaine, heroin, cannabis, MDMA, ecstasy and ketamine, we are increasingly being instructed in cases involving the newer synthetic drugs as well as substances classified under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
While our criminal barristers have experience in the full range of drugs offences, the cases we are most often instructed in include:
- Cultivation and production of illegal drugs
- Drug importation
- Drug related conspiracies
- Drug trafficking,
- Manufacture or supply of a controlled substance
- Possession of drugs
- Possession with intent to supply
- Psychoactive substances

Why should you instruct Westgate Chambers’ criminal barristers in a drugs case?
We have extensive experience of both defending and prosecuting those facing domestic and international drugs charges. These cases range from individuals accused of possessing relatively small quantities of drugs to widespread international conspiracies, many of which are linked to organised crime.
Whatever the scope or scale of the charge, our criminal barristers will always deliver the highest quality advice and advocacy as you pursue the best possible outcome to your case.
Experience has also taught us that many drugs cases hinge on a diverse range of supporting evidence.
This could include mobile phone data, cash and financial records and the testimony of expert witnesses. Analysing this evidence and ensuring it is used to best effect requires a level of expertise and insight only a hugely experienced barrister will have.
Similarly, almost every drug conspiracy involves multiple parties. Effectively managing these parties over many months or even years requires very specific expertise.
The barristers in our criminal team who specialise in drugs cases have all this experience and expertise.
