Last Friday we enjoyed a very successful Family and Civil Law Christmas event at Cote Brasserie in Brighton.
As well as being able to host a good number of our highly valued Family and Civil clients, we got to serve up a lovely supper with some much needed CPD points!
We were privileged to be joined by Steven Bradley, a former FBI agent and now our liaison at OurFamilyWizard.
Steven provided an immensely interesting insight into ‘The Weaponization of Technology in Domestic Violence and Family Law Cases’.
While domestic violence is still a topic that our family barristers unfortunately see all too often, Steven’s talk brought the issue right up to date. He highlighted the alarming number of cases in which emails, text messages and social media posts now take centre stage.
However, as we learned, it’s not all bad news.
Steven also explained how the new generation of consumer tech – smart watches, interconnected white goods and video doorbells – are playing a crucial role by gathering evidence that would otherwise never have been available to prosecution teams.
Although the event was first and foremost a big thank you to our clients and an opportunity to wish them all a very merry Christmas in person, we trust there was real value in the keynote speech and the new perspective it placed on the influence technology will continue have on domestic violence and family cases.
We will continue to run educational but social sessions like this Family and Civil Law Christmas event throughout next year so if you’d like to attend, please contact Stuart Taylor today.
