On Friday 2nd August 2024, Kyle Fournillier delivered an update on the Building and Safety Act for an audience of property professionals that included surveyors, architects, contractors and building inspectors.

In the session Kyle provided an ‘on the ground’ perspective of the new Building and Safety Act in practice before explaining the differences between the Act and its previous incarnation, The Building Safety Bill, highlighting exactly what the attendees need to be aware of.

The Building Safety Bill (as it then was) was intended to provide a platform from which to progress the Government’s commitment to reform the UK’s building safety system. The Bill was to give effect to policies set out in the Building a Safer Future consultation response, published in April 2020.

This detailed how the Government intended to deliver the principles and recommendations of Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, published in May 2018.
