We are delighted to announce that Westgate Chambers’ Scott Sharp has been elected to The Bar Council’s Disability Panel.

The Bar Council’s Disability Panel has been created to report into its Equality Diversity and Social Mobility (EDSM) Committee and advise The Bar Council in relation to its activity with respect to disability as well as supporting barristers and pupils with disabilities.

As such the Panel includes barristers with a range of disabilities and/or specific expertise in disability issues.

According to The Bar Council:

“The group aims to promote disability access throughout the profession, the Inns of Court and justice system, to develop guidance for practitioners on reasonable adjustments, legislative and regulatory disability obligations and through the Panel of Disability of Advisors to offer guidance to disabled law students and barristers.”

Scott is excited about the work he will be involved in while he sits on the panel and, when his election was announced, he said:

“We will meet regularly throughout the year to discuss the issues currently facing the inclusiveness and open access at the Bar such as Court access, acceptable adaptive equipment and other means of social inclusiveness. Our meetings will focus on what steps we can take to encourage, promote, and if needed pressure change for the better.”
